Sejal Patel #11 - Sky Bridge

This is the Sky Bridge in Oklahoma City. The structure of this is very unusual but it looks cool. It stands out from all the other buildings that you would see every where. It lights up at night like shown in the picture, which makes it look even more interesting and cool. I've never walked across the bridge but I would love to some day. This is one of the most interesting structures I have ever seen and I'm always amazed every time I look at it.

Sejal Patel #10 - Devon

This is Devon tower in downtown Oklahoma City. I believe it is currently the tallest building in Oklahoma. The structure of the building looks fantastic and it definitely stands out, especially when passing by on the highway or passing it in general. The inside of the rotunda looks fancy and you can see the entire tower when looking up out of the window. It was a pretty view. I'm sure the view from the top of the tower is also amazing but unfortunately I never got to go up there and see it.

Wonderworks Pigeonforge Tennessee - Mark Nakmali Post 6

I visited Tennessee during the summer for a research program. While I was there, I visited a science museum called Wonderworks in the tourist city of pigeon fort. The building itself is very whacky because it is upside down! The steps, sidewalk, and working streetlamps are in the air, while the roof is ground level. I do think that this is properly fitting because even as a science museum, the unique and creative ways that they present each science project can definitely turn your world upside down. As an engineer, I love science museums and we made sure to visit each and every exhibit that they had inside.

Gold Dome - Mark Nakmali Post 5

The building is located around the intersection of Classen and 23rd street in Oklahoma City. The geodesic shape causes there to be many different hues of gold and silver. I often passed this building as a kid and it always stuck out to me because of its brilliant color and unique shape. It really sticks out and it also goes well with the similarly golden color of the Classen Luxury Apartments (which I also did a post of). It really gives off a regal sense to the area with the gold color.

Columbine High School - Grant Inman Post 12

Columbine High School in Littleton, CO has received a lot of attention over the years because of the devastating shooting that happened there in 1999. During this time, I lived in the apartments in the top part of the picture that you can barely see. The experience is more surreal than anything and has changed me in certain ways. However, I remember this as one of the happiest times of my life. The park around the high school had several baseball and soccer fields, as well as a large lake with a walking path. The facility and the way the designers incorporated it into the community made it a fantastic place to picnic and play. In response to the shooting, the community surrounding it picked up the pieces and rebuilt everyday life again. For me, this place will always be a mix of baseball games, rollerblading with my brothers, and being a kid as well as the tragedy that captured the attention of the nation. Most of all, it taught me the importance of having a solid community close to me.

Park Place Hotel - Grant Inman Post 11

Above is the Park Place hotel in Traverse City, MI. I have fond memories of Traverse City from when I was 15 years old and worked at a nearby camp, in Lake Ann. Traverse City was about 30 minutes away from us and during the weekend we would travel here to visit the beach and have fun. During the summer, the National Cherry Festival is held in Traverse City to celebrate the huge local economy of cherry's in Northern Michigan. Around 70% of the nations cherries are grown in Michigan. Walking around during the festival you can sample different types of cherries, pies, and snacks from all around the area. I remember visiting Traverse City with my family and staying in the Park Place hotel while I lived in this area. I believe that hotels are unique feature of architecture. They offer the peace and seclusion of home, but give the user the ability to meet others, engage the area around, and enjoy the town for what it has to offer. The hotel is close to the beach and all the main attractions of the city.

The Grand Hotel - Grant Inman Post 10

The Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island in Michigan is a unique trip destination. Mackinaw Island is a famous vacation area in Michigan and is visited from people all around the world for its history, beautiful Victorian era architecture, and food. The island is only accessible by ferry, or in the winter, you can travel across the frozen ice on a snowmobile to arrive at the destination. On the island itself, there are no vehicles allowed. Only horses and carriages are used for transportation. The history of the island has been preserved over the years from when it became a popular destination in Northern Michigan because of the rapidly expanding logging industry in the 1800s. The island is known extremely well for its fantastic fudge, and unique dining experiences. If you ever visit Michigan, make sure you stop by this beautiful location!
