Scott Terry: Giotto's Campanile Post 1

Scott Terry
Giotto's Campanile
Post 1
Giotto's Campanile (Italian for bell tower) was built in the fourteenth century.  It is located in the Piazza del Duomo in Florence, Italy.  Climbing the stairs to the top is quite a workout but the view is definitely worth it.  From the top, you can see practically all of Florence and the surrounding rolling hills.  The artwork on the outside of the belltower is gorgeous, but the coolest thing about it are the top three stories.  In the picture on the right, you can see that that the fourth story is larger than the third, and the fifth story is much larger than the fourth.  This creates an optical illusion.  When looking up at it close by (picture on the left), it appears that the three stories are equal in height.
