Leah Parker - Post #8 (Week of 10-6 to 10-10)

Intercession Cathedral (Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed)

Surprise, it's another Russia picture! Across Russia are tons of huge cities and towns where legendary buildings that date back from the long past are located. Of course through history and time, a lot of the great architecture and buildings have been lost, but there are definitely still a number of beautiful well-preserved historical architectural talents of Russians to be seen! For most of Russian history, I believe their architecture has been predominantly religious. One of their most characteristic architectural features (as I have mentioned before in an older post) are the onion-domed churches, which have evolved over the many years. One of the most important and famous of Russia's memorial buildings is the one pictured here, the Intercession Cathedral - also known as the Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed. It was erected around year 1555 - a crazy long time ago! It is known for its very unique forms and colors. It is one of many of my personal favorites from Russia, as you have probably noticed from my past posts. I would very much like to visit it when I get the chance to finally go to Russia.
