Zac Hardina #13
Pictured above is the Skydance bridge located in Oklahoma City. The bridge is located on Harvey Avenue between SW 7th and SW 10th. The bridge and the sculpture were built by the local firm S-X-L. The sculpture is 197 feet tall and it and the bridge span 380 feet across Interstate 40. At night the sculpture is illuminated by LEDs that can be set to a myriad of different colors for various events. The sculpture was inspired by the scissor-tailed flycatcher. The first time I saw this sculpture was late at night while driving down Interstate 40 with a friend. Neither of us knew of the sculpture's existence until we began to approach this large, glowing, and winged object in the distance. The object had a somewhat mystical aura about it due to its uniqueness in Oklahoma. We first thought it was the supporting structure of the bridge, but this became apparently false due to the lack of guide wires. After passing the bridge, and letting the event settle on our minds, it become apparent that it was a sculpture meant to help beautify the Oklahoman nighttime.
