Blog # 8 Shah Cheragh Tahereh dinpajooh
A place that was special to me while growing was Shah Cheragh which can be translated into “king of light”. It is a Mosque located in Shiraz, Iran. The mosque was originally built by the Zand Dynasty by Amir Muqarrab. The Mosque of Shah Cheragh includes the dome, tomb chamber, and columned porch. The building was in the same condition for two hundred years and then it was repaired by Queen Tash Khatun several times during 1344 and 1349. Shah Cheragh was damaged by an earthquake several times and it was repaired in 1506,1588, and 1827. The dome was removed and replaced with iron structures same as the original structure. Now, the building has its original front with ten columns on the east side. The interior of Shah Cheragh is designed with many colorful pieces of glass surrounding the walls, and the roof. It is a very beautiful place to visit and enjoy the beautiful work of art. As a child, I remember I always enjoyed the beauty of the structure and design. Even now everytime I go there, I am amazed by how all those small pieces of glass were designed and put together. This building has a strong historical value and personal value to myself.
