La Tour Eiffel in Paris, France is easily one of the most recognizable structures today. Construction began in 1887 and completed in 1889. Engineered by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 World's Fair, it was originally a temporary structure to be removed after the fair, but because of its fame and notoriety it became a permanent fixture of the Paris skyline. I enjoyed a nice picnic lunch on the Champ de Mars with some friends on the trip this past summer and it was an unforgettable experience. I didn't climb to the top because before you get to an elevator you must climb 300 stairs and the line was terribly long. Seeing it lit up at night was a beautiful sight and I can't wait to go back to Paris.
