Iran has many ancient cities that was
built thousands of years ago by many different dynasties. Unfortunately, most
them were destroyed throughout time. Bishapur was one of the ancient cities
that was founded in 266 by Shapur Isassani’s second king (247-2775). He
reestablished the empire borders of the Achaemenid Persian period which
defeated the Romans. Shapur celebrated his victory by creating many astonishing
designs on the cleft near the river outside of the Bishapur. The stones and
mountains were carved with images of soldiers and horses. He made the historical
decorations on the mountain by showing god and the king face to face on horses.
There isn’t much of Bishapur city left except some parts of it but there are
still many of Shapour’s designs found on the mountain walls. Bishapur was near
my hometown and I spent a lot of my childhood during the summer there.
This place is surrounded by the mountains and is across from a beautiful river
with hot spring water. I spend many days during the summer camping in Bishapur
with my family because of the nature and cool breeze air around the evening
surrounded by many lime trees. During the day I enjoyed the beauty of the
historical art on the mountains, and at the night I enjoyed the sound of water
running through the river with aroma of the citrus trees.
