My favorite building in the world is the Duomo in Florence, Italy. I remember reading everything I could about Italy before my family and I visited a few summers ago, but nothing could have prepared me for the immense beauty that is Brunelleschi's dome. About five seconds after I arrived at the foot of the cathedral my sister and I just had to get to the top. We ran up and up the dark, narrow staircase that sits between the outer and inner domes and is walled by stone. When we reached the top in a burst of light I felt like Brunelleschi having his epiphany about the dome.
