One of my favorite buildings in this country is the Washington monument built to honor George Washington. Construction began in 1848 and halted about 20 years later. It was not actually finished for about another 20 years. Because they had to stop and then continue you can see a line in the stone where the material changes. It remains the tallest building the capitol and will always remain so.
