Leah Parker - Post #9 (Week of 10-13 to 10-17)
I chose a picture of the Casa Mila (also known as the La Pedrera or The Quarry), a modernist building located in Barcelona, Spain. The architect Antoni Guadi build this sometime in the early 1900's, around 1910 I believe. Architecturally, it is considered a very innovative work of art bt having a structure of columns and floors free of load bearing walls. The floor is also made of stone, and "self supporting," and another innovative element is the construction of the underground garage. Currently it exists as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and manages various exhibitions, activities, and public visits. A lot of the Casa Mila was actually restored in the 1980's from being in poor condition. I particularly like this building because I think it's a really fun shape, for a building. It almost seems like it shouldn't be able to stand (at least for as long as it has!) because it's very "loopy", for lack of a better word. I think the design of both the interior and exterior are very very unique, definitely something worth noting in the world of architecture.
