The
Radio City Music Hall is home to the New York City Rockets, but has also been
the main venue for several diverse entertainment platforms, such as basketball games
and pop star concerts. Edward Stone developed the Radio City Music Hall in 1940
under John D. Rockefeller, Jr. The music hall seats 5,933 people, and it became
the largest movie theater in the world at the time of its opening. Under the
main stage lies an expansive elevator system that is truly quite impressive.
This magnificent engineering feat was also used in airplane designs for world
war and is still in use today.
Radio
City Music Hall exudes life and energy. When you walk through the doors your
eyes are instantly greeted with whimsy and brilliant colors. A sense of
lightheartedness and fun can be felt through the warm rich tones and beautiful
art deco murals. The brass accents and mod carpets hint to an older time, and elude
to the idea that this building was a special gathering place for the people of
that time. The interior of the theater is an excellent representation of the art
deco era, and was created by designer Donald Deskey. Radio City Music Hall is
one of my favorite buildings in New York because of the art deco design and architecture.
There are no other building in the city like Radio City. The beauty of the theater
gives the visitor a sense of happiness and excitement that I did not experience
anywhere else. Radio City Music Hall is a magical gem in the heart of New York,
that continues to captivate audiences today.
Very cool venue! I saw Dave Matthews perform acoustically here a few years back and the acoustics of the venue definitely blew me away. Great post!
