Sam Melman - Price College (#7)

This building is Price College of Business at OU. Being a business student this is where I spend most of my time and where I take most of my classes to get my degree here at OU. Although there are challenges behind those doors and many more to come, it will be an accomplishment to earn my degree within them and go on to new things using the knowledge I have gained behind those doors and within those classrooms.

Sam Melman Mercedes-Benz Superdome (#6)

This is the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Not only does this domed in stadium host the New Orleans Saints, it has hosted a variety of things over the years. One of the more crazy things that this dome has hosted was the thousands of people during Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath that it had. It withheld the storm and shelter thousands during a very rough time that people went through when Katrina hit. But in the years to come the Superdome was refurbished and came back to life. In 2014 the Superdome held the Sugar Bowl where OU beat Alabama and I got to witness that sight first hand sitting in crowd of rowdy fans that filled the dome on that day. It was a sight to see and will be a game I will never forget and a place that will always be in my mind as such an awesome sporting event.

Sam Melman - Cains Ballroom (#5)

This is Cains Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Originally it opened in 1924 to serve as a garage and then in 1930 as a dance academy. After shutting down and being repurchased in 1978, Historic Cains Ballroom was refurbished and reopened as the Cains it is now. Ive been there a few times and have had some of the funnest times of my life watching bands and artists perform within the famous lighten up Cains Ballroom. The inside is unique and is really something to see. It has some awesome artwork and famous bands portraits and album covers signed by all the bands that have came through and played over the years. I definitely recommend going to see a concert in this venue, it is something special and the atmosphere on the bouncing wooden floors is something to see.

Mesa Verde by Brent Wilkins (Blog Twelve)

Mesa Verde is a community of cliff dwellings located in southwestern Colorado. The area was developed and inhabited by the Anasazi tribe between 600 and 1300 AD. Why these people would create over 600 dwellings into cliffsides hundreds of feet in the air has created speculation to this day. The site was designated a National Park in 1906, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well.

I have visited Mesa Verde twice, with my most recent visit in 2011. I have always been fascinated with both the architecture and site location. I like to imagine what it would have been like to live here; but considering that the area receives less than 20 inches of rain per year, it was probably tough.

The Tower by Brent Wilkins (Blog Eleven)

The Tower is a luxury 37 floor residential building in Fort Worth, Texas. It was designed by John Portman for the Fort Worth National Bank (upper left), which was later purchased by Bank One. In March of 2000 the building sustained extensive damage after being hit by a tornado (upper right). The owner determined the repairs not to be cost effective, which resulted in the building remaining boarded up for four years. In 2004, a developer took this opportunity to do a full renovation of the building, which resulted in the product you see today (bottom right).

Fort Worth is one of my favorite places to visit. This particular building has always stood out to me because, prior to the tornado, I had considered it one of the least attractive buildings there. In my mind, the tornado was just what this building needed. It went from being an eyesore to a centerpiece in downtown Fort Worth.

Oklahoma civic center music hall premier performing arts facility. The Art Deco style building makes up the westernmost anchor of downtown Oklahoma City’s Arts District, which also includes the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, Stage Center, the Myriad Botanical Gardens, and the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum. I went this this music hall couple time for ballet recitals and musical concerts that play our Oklahoma heritage of the country side. I like the architect design of floor balcony that face the orchestra stage, you can good view of the performance. The Civic center building was erected in 1937. The new municipal auditorium has remedied this condition. It contains an auditorium with a seating capacity of 6,000, a small theater seating 400, a convention hall seating 900, 22 small committee rooms, and an exhibition hall with a floor area of 38,000 square feet. The auditorium stage is sufficiently large and well equipped to permit the production of plays and operas and to accommodate large orchestras and can be used also for convention purposes.

Landon Davidson #12

This is one of the libraries at Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio. I went to this school for a semester (and missed OU too bad, so I transferred back home). Baldwin Wallace was founded in 1845, so the buildings are styled nicely on the outside and most are renovated on the inside. This library was cool because the outside is old and almost looks like a castle, while the inside (especially the study area) is very modern. The study areas are actually the most memorable part. They were similar to the new Lower Level 1 of the Bizzell Library, with glass walls between each of the study rooms. However, the walls were much more soundproof in the study area than the Lower Level 1 study rooms of Bizzell. This allowed for you to study/work more efficiently, while not feeling isolated due to the glass walls.
