Zac Hardina #2: AutoStadt

The large glass cylinder shown is one of two glass silos known as AutoStadt. Located in Wolfsburg, Germany the AutoStadt serves as a large parking garage for newly produced cars along with older prototypes and race cars of the Volkswagen Automobile Group. The structure itself is a large glass cylinder, with an inner diameter of steel and concrete to support the parking of various vehicles. Along the center is a massive beam supporting the elevator used to lift and lower cars between the various floors. I am fond of this building for its pleasing architectural aesthetics combined with ingenious engineering implementation.  This pair of buildings represent unconventional thinking towards the problem of storing large amounts of vehicles in a small space.
