Stage Center by Brent Wilkins (Blog One)

Constructed for the Mummers Theater Group in 1970, the Stage Center represented one of the most iconic works of architecture in Oklahoma until its demolition this year. The building was designed by John M. Johansen, a Harvard-trained architect and student of Frank Lloyd Wright, and was unique for its "inside out" appearance. The work was internationally recognized, and the only building in Oklahoma to receive a honor award from the American Institute of Architects.

I have particularly fond memories of attending community theater events, as well as productions during the festival of arts, at the Stage Center as a child. Its demolition was a great loss to the history and culture of Oklahoma City.
