Michael J. Week 2 - Prairie Chicken House
This is the Greene residence or the "Prairie Chicken House" in Norman, Oklahoma. The house was designed and built by Herb Greene in 1961. When I was a child I would pass by this interesting house on the way to my grandparents. I often thought to myself "what in the world happened to that house?" Was it hit by a tornado? Did someone not know what they were doing when they built it? I remember wishing I could explore it more closely in detail. It wasn't until much later in life that I discovered its significance. The house is actually a piece of art. Every feature of the house represents a particular aspect of the prairie. Such as, the exterior of the house reflecting the windblown erosion of the plains. I have only seen pictures of the interior, but it appears just as interesting as the exterior. I would like to someday see the interior in person.
